Welcome to our virtual craft series for adults, “Make it At Home!” Stop by the Information Desk on the first Monday of the month for your free supplies kit, and then watch an instructional video on how to assemble your craft. Each craft is designed to be made with materials you can easily find, so if you are unable to pick up a kit, you can still do the craft along with us! All kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is no longer required.
This month, we are making a Christmas tree using pipe cleaners! Pick up your kits at the Library, or click on the link below to gather your supplies at home. Then, watch the video to the right for instructions on how to make your craft, or see the written instructions below.
Happy crafting!
Provided in the kits:
30 green pipe cleaners
1 wooden star
Black cardstock
You’ll need to provide:
Hot glue
Scissors
Tape
Instructions:
Roll a piece of cardstock into a cone shape and secure the edge with tape.
Trim the bottom flat so the cone stands upright.
Cut each pipe cleaner into 4 equal pieces.
Fold the pipe cleaner in half and cut.
Fold each of those pieces in half again and cut.
Bend each cut pipe cleaner in half to form a tight loop.
Starting at the bottom of the cone, glue the looped pipe cleaner pieces horizontally all the way around the base.
Work your way up the cone in overlapping rows, keeping the loops snug until you reach the top.
NOTE: You will use approximately this many looped pieces for each row:
25 pieces - bottom row
24 pieces - 2nd row from the bottom
22 pieces - 3rd row from the bottom
18 pieces - 4th row from the bottom
15 pieces - 5th row from the bottom
10 pieces - 6th row from the bottom
5 pieces - top row
Allow the glue to dry completely.
Working your way around the tree, gently bend the tips of the pipe cleaners up.
Glue the wooden star to the top of the tree.
Allow to dry completely before displaying.
